2011 Chateau du Lancyre 'Vieilles Vignes' Languedoc - case of 6

Product Description

The reliable Vieilles Vignes is a blend of Shiraz (65%) and Grenache (35%). The 2011 is concentrated and sweet, with notes of thyme and bay complementing the abundance of fruit, which is dominated by plums and cherries. The wine has a smoky back-drop and firm, refreshing acidity. Notes of licorice, graphite and game are also present and underlie the complexity of this finely-crafted, and eminently food friendly, wine.  The perfumes of Pic Saint Loup recall local luminosity and limestone clarity in a swirl of synesthetic pleasure.

Pic Saint Loup appellation: Over the last 20 years, Languedoc wines have grown enormously in quality and the best wines of this amazing region of South of France are now much sought after around the globe. One of the magic appellations within Languedoc is the tiny area of Pic Saint Loup, just behind Montpellier on an extraordinary terroir of Jurassic limestone full of marine fossils. The red wines of Pic St Loup are rich and fruity while full of complexity and spice - half way between a great French and Australian shiraz (with dashes of grenache, mourvedre and carignan or cinsault). The whites can be made of marsanne, roussanne, viognier, white grenache and vermentino (rolle). A fabulous discovery!
